Wrecks

A wreck begins its second life the day it hits the bottom. Within a few years, the steel is covered in sponges, soft corals and sea fans, the holds become shelters, and schools of fish move into the rigging. Diving a wreck is like traveling back in time: motorcycles and trucks still lashed down in the holds, an airplane fuselage resting on the sand, a bow looming out of the blue. It’s also an exercise in light, as dive lights probe the passageways and the sun outlines silhouettes of steel. Every shipwreck is a story; the sea patiently writes what comes next.
